About DIG

We dig up the records

Deseret Investigative Gazette exists to put the public record in front of the public.

The records that decide what gets built in Utah already exist: meeting agendas, minutes, lease memos, mining claims, permit files, votes and campaign promises. They are public in name, but they are scattered across county offices, state agencies and federal databases, posted with little notice and written in language few people have time to decode. In practice, that keeps them buried.

DIG goes and gets them. We read the filings, listen to the full recordings, check what officials and companies say against what the documents show, and publish what we find with the evidence attached. Every fact is numbered to its source.

What we cover

The build-out of artificial intelligence in Utah: the data centers, the power plants that would feed them, the land, water and money they need, and the officials and companies who decide it. We start where the decisions land first, in rural counties with small budgets and few reporters.

How we work

When something cannot be confirmed, we say so. When we get something wrong, we correct it in public. The site runs no ads, tracks no readers and takes no money from anyone it covers. Our full rules are on the standards page.

The records are yours.
